A doctor is facing a prison sentence after he admitted secretly filming intimate examinations for his own sexual gratification.
Former Torbay Hospital doctor Suhail Ahmed pleaded guilty to 11 charges of voyeurism against his female patients.
The 27-year-old, from Cyncoed Road, Cardiff, denied two charges of sexual assault and another count of voyeurism.
The judge at Exeter Crown Court heard the doctor’s career has been “ruined” and he faces up to 18 months in jail.
Judge Francis Gilbert QC said Mr Ahmed had given a “far-fetched” explanation for his actions.
Mr Ahmed, who was suspended by the General Medical Council last July, filmed the clips on a mobile phone.
‘Hand on groin’
The court heard that some of the victims had not been identified and it is not clear how many women the doctor took pictures of.
The prosecution has been given time to speak to the alleged victims before deciding whether to continue proceedings on the sex assault charges and the remaining voyeurism charge.
It is alleged Mr Ahmed sexually assaulted one victim by placing his hand on her groin when she was suffering abdominal pain. The second allegation concerns adjusting a patient’s clothing.
David Martin, defending, said Mr Ahmed had not shown the pictures to anyone else.
Mr Ahmed was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register. He was bailed to re-appear at court on 3 September.
South Devon Healthcare Foundation Trust, which runs Torbay Hospital, said it had been working with police.
It emphasised there was no ongoing concern or risk to patients as a result of the investigation.
The majority of the offences took place between March and June last year, when Mr Ahmed worked at Torbay Hospital in Devon.
One charge of voyeurism relates to a period between December 2006 and June 2012, when Mr Ahmed was working in Exeter.
