AROUND eight police cars and four ambulances have been spotted surrounding a coach in the carpark of Megger Instruments.
An eyewitness whose father spoke to the police said he was told that there was a “suspected device” on board the vehicle.
Sarah Briscombe said: “No-one can get into Aycliffe and no-one can get out.
“There is police tape at the end of the Aycliffe estate.
“My dad spoke to a policeman at the end of the estate by the police tape and all they said was there was a suspected device on the coach.
“In Megger car park there is a coach and about eight police cars and four ambulances.”
A security guard at Megger said: “I can’t give out any details.
“As to what they are doing I honestly can’t tell you.”
P&O Ferries tweeted: “The A20 at Aycliffe just west of Dover town is closed in both directions. Police advice is to us the A2/M2.”
Chelsie Blunt tweeted: “First night out in a long time and I can’t even get out of Aycliffe #great”
Kent Police are unavailable for comment.
