A UNION boss last night threatened to wreck the Government’s drive to tighten Britain’s border controls.
Unite leader Len McCluskey vowed to oppose Home Secretary Theresa May’s Immigration Bill “every step of the way”. He raised the prospect of Unite members refusing to carry out nationality checks on NHS patients and bank customers in a crackdown on illegal immigrants.
The Bill is designed to stop illegal immigrants getting NHS care, bank accounts, driving licences and rented homes.
We do not spy on our friends and neighbours on behalf of the state
Describing it as “an affront to the British way of life”, Mr McCluskey said: “We do not spy on our friends and neighbours on behalf of the state.”
Tory MP Chris Skidmore said: “Yet again Red Len McCluskey is hopelessly out of touch with the workers he claims to represent. Labour’s open door immigration policy from 1997-2010 saw real pressure brought on the jobs market and workers’ wages.”
