Police hunting a robber who attacked a woman and took her mobile phone have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace.

The 23-year-old victim was targeted in New Walk, Leicester city centre in the early hours of Saturday, September 21.

A man approached her from behind and snatched the woman’s phone from her pocket.

The woman fought back but after a brief struggled the man escaped with the phone, a white Samsung Galaxy. Police said the woman was not injured.

The incident took place at about 3.30am near New Walk Museum. Police today released an image of a man they want to trace.

Detective Constable Lizzie Holtham said: “Although the victim wasn’t hurt, it was very frightening for her and we would urge the public to take a good look at the image and contact us if they recognise him.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man fitting the description of the suspect in the New Walk area on September 21.

“Any calls received will be treated in confidence.”

The suspect is black, 25 to 30 and was wearing a black leather jacket and grey hooded top.
