A 46-year-old man from Rotherham has today, Thursday, 28 March, been sentenced to four years in prison for attempted abduction of a child and possession of indecent images of children.
Simon Goad initially appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, 22 February, and pleaded guilty to all the offences against him.
On Friday, 21 September last year, at approximately 5.30pm, a seven-year-old girl was riding her bike on Mutual Street in Hexthorpe, Doncaster.
While she was there, Goad approached her and asked her to get in his car parked close by.
The girl refused and ran to her house near by, where she went inside and informed her mother what had happened.
Police later arrested Goad and conducted a search of his home address where his computers were seized.
As the computers were analysed by officers as part of the investigation, over a thousand indecent images of children were discovered, graded from one to five.
DC Andy Gray said: “We were able to identify, locate and arrest Goad almost immediately, therefore preventing him from committing any other offences against this young girl or any other child.
“Now he has been sentenced, I hope both the girl and her family are able to put this ordeal behind them and move forward with their lives.”
